Skin Cancer Program at OhioHealth
Our team is specially trained to find existing skin cancers at their earliest and most treatable stages.
Much of what is possible today was not offered just a few short years ago. The thought of what will be possible tomorrow is what keeps us striving for leading-edge breakthroughs. We are committed to providing new options through testing, research, medical expertise and new tools for skin cancer treatment.
Melanoma Screening
Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and most curable when detected and treated early. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 3,000 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in Ohio this year. The five-year survival rate for melanoma is 91 percent.
OhioHealth dermatologists are specially trained to find existing skin cancers at their earliest and most treatable stages. A thorough, head-to-toe, baseline skin examination by a dermatologist is recommended for all adults to screen for skin cancer. Based on findings, ongoing mole and skin cancer evaluations may be needed. A skin biopsy may be performed for suspicious skin lesions. You will also receive education about reducing risk of skin cancer and avoiding a second skin cancer.
Clinical Trials, Research and Innovation
The best management for a cancer patient may include participation in a cancer clinical trial.* Participation may allow you to have access to the newest possible treatments. A dedicated, clinical trials coordinator or nurse guides you through the entire process. OhioHealth offers patients access to a broad range of regional, national and international clinical cancer trials, including those focusing on skin cancer.
Research fosters:
- Constant improvements to treatment
- Improved access to the most up-to-date therapies
- An enhanced patient experience
