Exceptional Care for Moms and Babies
At each of our maternity hospitals, you have access to providers who bring expertise and compassion to women’s healthcare.
Meet Our Team
At every OhioHealth maternity hospital, mothers and babies are served by board-certified doctors and experienced staff. We provide the latest in technology and accommodations for labor and delivery. We offer specialized prenatal and maternity care, and all the support services you need.
Professionals who may contribute to your care include:
- Anesthesiologists – Medical doctors with advanced specialization in administering medications to control pain and support vital functions. They care for patients before, during and after surgery.
- Gynecologists – Doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions that are unique to women. They provide routine physical care as well as advanced treatment for diseases affecting women’s reproductive systems and breast health.
- Lab Technicians – Professionals who draw blood, collect tissue and body fluid samples, and perform microscopic tests under the supervision of a medical technologist or doctor. Your doctor will use these test results to diagnose and treat your condition.
- Labor and Delivery Nurses – Registered nurses who specialize in caring for women who are in labor. Postpartum nurses care for mothers who have recently given birth. Antepartum nurses care for those who have pregnancy-related complications requiring hospitalization. During a cesarean (surgical) delivery, scrub nurses assist surgeons and circulating nurses manage patient care.
- Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists – Obstetrician/gynecologists who are experts in caring for high-risk pregnancy. They have specialized skills to help both mothers and babies before and during an un-routine/high-risk pregnancy.
- Neonatologists – Pediatricians who specialize in the care and development of newborns and conditions affecting newborns. They have expertise in managing complex and high-risk situations. They may assist during and after a premature birth, serious illness or injury, or in instances of birth defects. If a condition is identified before birth, a neonatologist may consult with your obstetrician about pregnancy care.
- Nurse Anesthetists – Specialized nurses who have advanced education and training in administering and monitoring anesthesia, and providing care related to surgery and other procedures. They help manage pain and have advanced skills to provide emergency treatment if needed.
- Nurse Midwives – Registered nurses who have received advanced education and training from a specialized program. They may attend births, provide annual exams and write prescriptions. They provide basic nutrition counseling, parenting education, patient education and reproductive health visits.
- Obstetricians – Doctors who care for and treat pregnant women. They provide prenatal and postnatal care. They are also trained to deliver babies through vaginal or cesarean (surgical) methods. All obstetricians are also gynecologists.
- Prenatal and Postnatal Educators – Healthcare professionals who specialize in providing education and support to new mothers and others. They provide expert guidance regarding childbirth, infant care and many other topics.
