Program Structure and Preceptors
The experiences you need to succeed
Each year of the OhioHealth Administrative Fellowship program has a specific focus designed to give you a variety of leadership experiences. You can also choose from several continuous development opportunities. Here are the details, as well as the preceptors who will join you.
Year one: Project and experiential focus
The goal of the first year is to provide a foundation for fellows as they begin their career as leaders. Fellows will be placed either at one of our hospitals, our administrative campus, or in one of our business units, such as OhioHealth Physician Group or Population Health. Fellows will work closely with their preceptors and interact with system leaders on a variety of projects to gain project management experience. Projects are selected based on organizational needs and personal interests.
Projects from previous first years have included:
- Physician contract management
- Lean implementation
- Epic implementation
- Hospital throughput improvement
- Freestanding emergency department construction and operationalization
Year two: Management focus
The goal of the second year is to develop management competencies by giving fellows increasing responsibilities, including direct people management. Each fellow will be placed in an interim management position within the organization. During the management year, fellows will be responsible for managing a team of direct reports while overseeing departmental budgets. This opportunity enables fellows to take on management responsibilities while receiving feedback from both their preceptor and a director within their business unit. Fellows work with their preceptors to determine second year management positions, which are based on organizational needs and personal interests.
Examples of second year management positions include:
- Business Operations Manager, Emergency Department – OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital
- Business Operations Manager, Surgical Services – OhioHealth Grant Medical Center
- Manager of Operations, Pulmonary Services – OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital
- Practice Manager, Urology – OhioHealth Physician Group
- Manager, Supply Chain Logistics – OhioHealth Doctors Hospital
